My Story
I attended my first birth 15 years ago. It was the most incredible experience to witness a woman in her power, birthing at home, on her own terms, with the support of her family. I was in awe of how birth could be so transformational, yet at the same time so beautifully ordinary. This was the beginning of a deep and ongoing relationship with the magic and the wonders of birth.
As I studied midwifery, I worked alongside a wonderful homebirth midwife who shared with me the ways of being with women. I spent the next 10 years working in continuity models between Australia and Indonesia. I have supported families to birth at home, in birth centres, tiny clinics, hospitals, on the side of the road, and in the back of the car. I was a long-term volunteer at Bumi Sehat birthing clinic in Bali from 2012 until 2017.
I deepened my midwifery knowledge by completing a Master of Primary Maternity Care at Griffith University. I then birthed my own son at home, in water, and experienced firsthand the exquisite normalcy and transformative power of birth. This led me to become an IBCLC and an Aware Parenting Instructor, as I experienced how intertwined it all was, and learned how deeply caring for ourselves was necessary in order to care for our children. For the past decade, I have supported parents from conception throughout the childbearing journey and into parenthood. It is a privilege to share this space with people.
I love to weave the Aware Parenting philosophy into my work as a Midwife and International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC). I see how much value there is in having an awareness of the emotional needs of babies and children and how it can ease the challenges of parenting journey. It offers a deeper connection and presence with little ones, leading to an expanded capacity for self-reflection, nourishment and joy within parenting.
